Investigative Journalism

Investigative journalism supports civil society organizations and project activists in influencing policymakers by gathering information on a specific issue. It accomplishes the following:

1. Persuading the public about the importance of the issue at hand.
2. Equipping organizations with stronger arguments and evidence.
3. Providing the audience with greater confidence in the accuracy of claims and statements.
4. Utilizing the gathered statistics to influence public policymakers and audiences.

Collecting information can serve as the basis for a research project, even if the decision is not to publish it as a media report. Instead, the goal is to exert influence on policymakers using the obtained information. However, before considering the impact of your work, it is essential to understand the principles and ethics of investigative journalism. How can information be collected? How can we avoid falling into the trap of fake news, misinformation, and intentionally misleading information? How can we verify the acquired data? And how can we manage the risks of engaging in such a project while safeguarding ourselves and other members of the organization? Conducting educational workshops and discussions on investigative journalism is our strategy to assist advocacy projects and activists who are working for social changes.
